Integration and interfaces for epilot customers

epilot is an excellent no-code and low-code platform. I take over where classic software development is needed again: interfaces to your own systems and individual extensions.

I don't replace epilot's consulting team, I work alongside it.

The first call is free and non-binding: 30 minutes on Microsoft Teams.

ERP Grid systems Billing Custom app epilot INTERFACE

Marcel R. G. Berger, software developer and software architect with more than 20 years of experience. I work with epilot as an external consultant and developer for apps and customisations.

01

When do you need a developer alongside epilot?

Whenever epilot's standard ends and code is needed: to connect your individual systems, or for an extension that fits exactly the way you work.

For the rollout and the standard scope, epilot's consulting team is your point of contact. I pick up where that standard ends, and I do it in cooperation with epilot.

These are the typical situations:

  • The epilot portal needs to be configured so that it fits the way you work.
  • Part of your processes runs outside epilot, for example in specialist systems you are keeping.
  • Third-party systems such as ERP, billing or grid systems need to exchange data with epilot.
  • A workflow needs functions epilot does not offer in that form, which calls for a custom app for epilot.

02

What do I do for epilot customers?

Four services, all around epilot: configuring the portal, connecting third-party systems, individual interfaces and custom apps.

  1. 1

Support with configuring the epilot portal

I support you in configuring the epilot portal, alongside the guidance you get from epilot and in coordination with epilot.

  2. 2

    Connecting third-party systems to epilot

Specialist systems such as ERP, billing or grid systems get connected to epilot, so processes run reliably across system boundaries even when part of the work happens outside the platform.

    • Webhook Connecting third-party systems via webhooks
    • Events Triggering events in other systems
  3. 3

Developing individual interfaces to third-party systems

Where no ready-made connection exists, I develop individual interfaces through which epilot and your third-party systems exchange data. The goal is a clean, traceable data exchange. The interfaces are scalable and maintainable, and the code is yours.

    • REST API Providing data via REST API from surrounding systems such as other CRMs and databases
    • Data in epilot Making information available inside epilot
  4. 4

    Custom apps for epilot

Apps that add to epilot exactly what your organisation needs. I work with epilot as an external consultant and developer for apps and customisations.

Every service, from implementation and code handover to a maintenance contract, is offered on the basis of an individual quote.

epilot is a registered trademark of epilot GmbH, and all rights to the epilot name, brand and platform belong to epilot GmbH. The epilot platform can only be licensed from epilot directly. I don't sell licences, and I work on the platform only in cooperation with epilot. Trademark notice

03

What does this look like in practice?

I am currently working on the introduction of epilot at a grid operator in Hesse.

Many of their processes are not mapped in epilot and run outside the platform instead. That is why several third-party systems are connected to epilot through individually developed interfaces. At the core are custom mapper tools written in Java with Quarkus, running in containers.

  1. 1

    Starting point

Many processes are not mapped in epilot and run outside the platform in specialist systems. Several third-party systems therefore have to exchange data with epilot.

  2. 2

Solution: custom mappers in Java and Quarkus

The connections are built as individual mapper tools in Java with Quarkus. They receive webhooks from epilot, exchange data via REST API with surrounding systems such as other CRMs and databases, trigger events in other systems and make information available inside epilot.

  3. 3

    Running in containers

The mappers run in containers and are scalable and maintainable. They are deployed the same way every time and can be updated one at a time without touching the other connections.

  4. 4

Result: processes run reliably across system boundaries

Data moves cleanly between epilot and the specialist systems, and the processes stay stable even when part of the work happens outside the platform.

What does a mapper do?

A mapper translates data structures between epilot and a specialist system. It takes care of four things:

  • Field mapping: which piece of information in epilot belongs to which field in the specialist system.
  • Format conversion: dates, identifiers and structures arrive in the shape the target system expects.
  • Validation: data is checked before it is passed on.
  • Error handling: a faulty record is detected and reported instead of getting lost unnoticed.

The code belongs to the client. After implementation I transfer it into the client's own repository if they wish. Alternatively I take care of maintenance and further development under a maintenance contract.

05

How does working together work?

In three steps: intro call, analysis, implementation. All of it runs remotely.

  1. 1

    Intro call

Free and non-binding, 30 minutes on Microsoft Teams. You describe where you stand, I tell you whether and how I can help.

  2. 2

    Analysis

After the intro call you receive an individual quote. In it we pin down which systems are involved, which data moves between them and which processes run outside epilot.

  3. 3

    Implementation

Portal configuration, connections, interfaces or the app get implemented and put into operation with your systems.

Why is the contracting party a US LLC?

Because we work internationally. Your contracting party is DigitalFreedom Global LLC, a company under the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA.

That gives clients in many countries one constant contracting party: the same company, the same address and the same invoicing, wherever you are based. The work runs remotely and independent of location. The registration can be checked with the Wyoming Secretary of State using the Filing ID in the legal notice. Legal notice

Governing law
For grid operators, we conclude the contract under German law on request. Otherwise the law of the State of Wyoming applies.
Invoicing
In euros, all prices net, payable within 14 days of the invoice date without deduction.
VAT
Clarified before the contract and set out in the quote. For business clients in the EU with a valid VAT ID, normally the reverse-charge procedure.
Data
Our infrastructure is in Europe and the United Kingdom. Your project data does not leave Europe.
Data protection
The GDPR applies. Where needed, we conclude a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR.
Cover
The company holds professional liability insurance; proof is available on request.

Frequently asked questions

When do I need a developer alongside epilot?
epilot is an excellent no-code and low-code platform. You need a developer where classic software development is called for again: interfaces to your own systems and individual extensions.
Do you replace epilot's consulting team?
No. I don't replace epilot's consulting team, I work alongside it. I pick up where epilot's standard ends, connecting your individual systems and extending epilot to fit the way you work.
Do you work for epilot GmbH?
No, I am not employed by epilot GmbH. I work with epilot as an external consultant and developer for apps and customisations. epilot-berater.de is an independent offer and is not operated by epilot GmbH.
Do you also help with configuring the epilot portal?
Yes. I support you in configuring the epilot portal so that it fits the way you work.
Can I buy the epilot platform from you?
No. The epilot platform can only be licensed from epilot GmbH directly. I don't sell licences, and I work on the platform only in cooperation with epilot.
Which systems can be connected to epilot?
Third-party and surrounding systems that need to exchange data with epilot, for example ERP, billing, grid systems, other CRMs or databases. Typical routes are webhooks, providing data via REST API, triggering events in other systems and making information available inside epilot.
What if a process is not mapped in epilot?
Then the process is connected across system boundaries: the part outside the platform stays in the specialist system, and the data moves between the two through an interface. That is exactly the setup in my current project at a grid operator in Hesse.
Do you also build custom apps for epilot?
Yes. I develop custom apps for epilot and work with epilot on them as an external consultant and developer for apps and customisations.
Why is the contracting party a US LLC?
Because we work internationally. Clients in many countries get one constant contracting party: the same company, the same address and the same invoicing, wherever they are based. The work runs remotely and independent of location. The registration of DigitalFreedom Global LLC can be checked with the Wyoming Secretary of State using the Filing ID in the legal notice.
How does invoicing work?
For clients in Germany we invoice in euros. All prices are net; currency and price are stated in the binding quote. Invoices are payable within 14 days of the invoice date without deduction.
Is VAT charged?
The tax treatment is clarified before the contract is signed and set out in the quote. For business clients in the EU with a valid VAT ID, this is normally the reverse-charge procedure, where the recipient accounts for the VAT; we confirm the VAT ID through VIES before the first invoice. How you book it is a question for your tax adviser; we do not give tax advice.
Which law applies?
For grid operators, we conclude the contract under German law on request. Otherwise the law of the US state of Wyoming applies. Please raise it with us before the order confirmation.
Where is my data?
In Europe. Our infrastructure is in Europe and the United Kingdom, and your project data does not leave Europe. The GDPR applies; if we process personal data in a project, we conclude a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR. For this website and the booking calendar, the privacy policy applies.
Do you have professional liability insurance?
Yes. DigitalFreedom Global LLC holds professional liability insurance. We provide proof on request.
Who owns the code?
You do. After implementation I transfer the code into your own repository if you wish. Alternatively I take care of maintenance and further development under a maintenance contract. Both, like every service, are offered on the basis of an individual quote.
Do you work on site or remotely?
Remotely. The intro call takes place on Microsoft Teams.
What does it cost?
That depends on your systems and workflows. After the intro call you receive an individual quote. This applies to every service, to the code handover and to maintenance contracts.
What does the intro call cost?
Nothing. The intro call is free, non-binding and takes 30 minutes.
What if it is urgent and no open slot fits?
Send an email to hello@digitalfreedom.co.za and we will find a short-notice slot within the same week.
